Hays County’s District Clerk is responsible for records of District Court proceedings. The County Clerk’s Courts Division supports the County Courts at Law, which Hays County says have jurisdiction over all Class A and B misdemeanor criminal cases. Use the court name, cause number, charge level or citation to choose the office before requesting copies.
Hays County says its County Courts at Law have jurisdiction over all Class A and B misdemeanor criminal cases. The County Clerk’s Courts Division supports those courts, and the county describes that division as maintaining criminal misdemeanor case records.
If the case is a misdemeanor in a County Court at Law, use the County Clerk court-case search or contact route rather than assuming the District Clerk’s District Court search covers it. For District Court proceedings, use the District Clerk. Keeping the court name and cause number with the request is the safest way to choose the correct custodian.
Hays County says publicly available District Court civil and criminal case information can be searched online by name at no charge. Results can include parties, cause number, case type, filing date, case summary and, when applicable, bond company and disposition date. Public terminals are also available in the District Clerk reception area.
The online case information is an index/summary tool; it is not automatically a certified copy of a filed document.
| Request | Published District Clerk rule |
|---|---|
| Staff name search | Past 10 years; $5 per name; allow five business days |
| Electronic copy | $1 for the first 10 pages, then $0.10 per page |
| Certified copy | $1 per page |
| Embossed seal | $5 |
Payment is required in advance. Hays County says to email the District Clerk for a quote before online payment. After payment confirmation, search results may be emailed or a search certificate mailed; copies or certified copies are mailed within two working days.
The District Clerk’s staff name-search service is expressly limited to the past 10 years. A blank result from that service does not establish that no older case exists and does not cover County Courts at Law, municipal courts, sheriff records or statewide criminal history.
Save the name searched, cause number if found, court, date, search method and exact document requested so a later clerk response or referral remains interpretable.
